What this covers
This policy applies to the Viewer Safety Lab website. It does not cover the third-party viewers we test; those run their own sites with their own practices, which is precisely what our methodology evaluates.
What we collect
- Newsletter email: only if you subscribe to the monthly report, and only your email address.
- Submissions: anything you enter into the "submit a viewer" or correction forms (service name, domain, your note, and an optional email).
- Usage data: privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics about which pages are visited, to understand what is useful.
- Technical basics: standard server logs (approximate region, browser type) used for security and reliability.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not build advertising profiles of visitors.
How we use it
- To send the monthly report you asked for, and nothing else, unless you opt in.
- To review submitted viewers and corrections.
- To understand, in aggregate, which guides and reviews are helpful.
- To keep the site secure and working.
Cookies & analytics
We aim to use only essential cookies plus privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics that do not track you across other sites. Where a regional law requires it, we ask for consent before any non-essential cookie is set. You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time without breaking the core site.
Third parties
Some outbound links to services may be affiliate links; see the Editorial Policy for how that works and why it never affects a score. When you follow a link off this site, the destination's own privacy practices apply, and several of the services we list score poorly precisely because of how they handle data.
Retention
- Newsletter email is kept until you unsubscribe.
- Form submissions are kept only as long as needed to act on them.
- Aggregate analytics are retained in summarized form.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any monthly report email using the link in it.
- Request access or deletion of information you submitted, where applicable law gives you that right.
- Browse without subscribing: the rankings, reviews, and guides are fully readable with no account.
